Excellent news! She’s no longer alive. The first look at Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda in the film adaptation of “Wicked” has been released by director Jon M. Chu.

“You weren’t given the full story. What happens if you deviate from the Yellow Brick Road? “The #WickedMovie’s FIRST LOOK… presently in production in Oz,” Chu said on Instagram.

In the photographs, Erivo is seen wearing her character’s iconic witch hat and broom, while a blonde Grande is seen ascending a staircase in a beautiful pink gown.

“Wicked,” a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” recalls everything that happened before Dorothy strutted down that famed yellow brick road—and chronicles the narrative of Elphaba, who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, known as the Good Witch. It also explains how the Wicked Witch obtained her pointed cap. (Don’t you think it’s pretty, um, sharp?)

Jonathan Bailey plays Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum plays the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, and Ethan Slater plays Boq.

The first version of “Wicked” opened in 2003, starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. It is still one of Broadway’s longest-running (and most popular) productions.

Stephen Schwartz, who penned the Broadway show’s music and lyrics, is co-writing the script with Winnie Holzman. In addition to fan favourites like “Defying Gravity” and “Popular,” the two-part film adaptation is slated to include at least two new songs.

The first “Wicked” film will be released in theatres on November 27, 2024, with the second episode following on December 25, 2025.
